Villa Pia Museum

VILLA PIA MUSEUM

The Villa Pia Museum was born with an identity closely linked to the Erich Lindenberg Art Foundation established in May 2008, two years after the artist's death, at the behest of Mareen Koch, a friend/colleague painter, and her brother Udo Lindenberg, a prominent German rock star, with the purpose of preserving the works, scientifically reworking and analyzing their contents, and disseminating Erich Lindenberg's artistic journey to an expanded public.

Both the Erich Lindenberg Art Foundation and the Villa Pia Museum spring from a solid friendship and a promise made in the early years, that of taking care of the artist's legacy.
The promise made at the time, could not foreshadow the actual creation of a museum/culture house, let alone foresee the regional and cultural change that bring Erich Lindenberg to Ticino, although our territory is no stranger to an international flow of artists, writers and musicians.
The activities of the foundation are intertwined and balanced with the Villa Pia Museum, which in addition to being a direct showcase for the study and insights of the Lindenberg archive, also intends to be a place for cultural meetings and exchanges.

In keeping with the tradition of our territory, the Museum intends to continue to cultivate this artistic flow, embracing events of a different nature: from exhibitions of a temporary nature (thematic or retrospective exhibitions) to events such as lectures, film viewings, book presentations and concerts. In particular, a voice will be given to young talents, to undiscovered talents present in the area, without, however, precluding the possibility of international personalities.

The Villa Pia Museum is the result of a successful private initiative, where patrons and family members, as well as the enthusiasm of a young team to believe in this type of project, play a very important role.
The Erich Lindenberg Foundation and the Villa Pia Museum intend in the future to be a point of reference for similar initiatives, to offer artistic and technical advice to other legacies in the area in the scientific processing of works and data, and to support their presentation to the public in the exhibition halls of the Villa Pia Museum (if the legacy itself has no exhibition home).

Mission

The Erich Lindenberg Foundation - Villa Pia Museum intend to disseminate and make known to local, national and international audiences of all ages and walks of life the thought and artistic productivity of the German artist Erich Lindenberg, as well as to be a house of culture strongly linked to its territory, the seat of an ongoing dialogue between various contemporary artistic languages, thanks to the direct confrontation between Erich Lindenberg and local, national and international artists, from north to south, from Germany and the Swiss or Italian territory.

Cultural, social, political goals

  1. Promoting and popularizing the thought and work of Erich Lindenberg through the planning of multiple exhibitions that allow for the in-depth study of individual themes through the display of the artist's works in dialogue with local, national and international contemporary artists.
  2. Establish a deep and articulate relationship with the surrounding area, and become the cultural and social gathering place for the residents of Porza.
  3. Strengthen its collaboration with city authorities, especially the culture department and the city culture commission.
  4. Gradually broaden its catchment area, fostering fruitful and intense dialogue between generations at the local level, thus approaching new audiences, offering enriching and collateral dynamic activities of different types (jazz/opera/classical music concerts, lectures, art classes, book presentations, performances).
  5. Establish an ongoing dialogue with other institutions, museums, galleries and initiatives in the cultural sphere existing in the area.
